Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls, and Toys

Category: Museums & Zoos Last Updated: Saturday, 14 January 2017

For the dollhouse fan in every little girl at heart, the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls, and Toys has a Community Day on the first Sunday of every month, from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Admission is free on Community Days but donations are accepted and suggested at $1 per person. The Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls, and Toys is a very popular Denver museum with exhibits highlighting rare and antique toys from around the world.

The museum is set in a Denver historic home called the Pearce-McAllister Cottage, and the home itself is a museum piece. Vintage doll and toy displays are set in nearly every room and hallway of the house. The biggest attraction at the museum are the intricate doll houses, many of which are based on real homes such as the Lace House in Central City.

In addition, there are train and car exhibits for the boys, as well as a vintage Nintendo game system that kids (and adults remembering their childhood) can play. There is a hands-on doll house in the home's sunroom, and the entire basement is an arts and crafts area. The gift shop is a great place to find unique miniatures to augment your own collection.

Also worth mentioning are the collections of toys from Native American culture and other cultures around the world. There is a fascinating collection of Kachinas and a huge display of traditional Japanese dolls. There is a very old German dollhouse in the upstairs hallway that you won't want to miss.

Visiting the doll and toy museum is one of the best things to do in Colorado with the kids, and will surely entertain your family for hours while learning about vintage and world toys. Admission is free on the first Sunday of every month, and families are asked to donate what they can.
